Why cooking?

Made with Square InstaPic

Often on sundays..

before I could even bother to think about getting up.. “what should we eat today” loudly he would ask.. “What dad.. I don’t want to eat let me sleep” annoyed me would say.

Eventually I would get up. As the day would pass on.. I’d see my dad chopping and prepping for the special lunch . I did not know  back then that it was influencing me to an extent I wouldn’t wanna live in a world where people don’t get excited at the thought of food. Oh how he would plan the whole day’s meal.

After years my dad isn’t with us but the vibe and excitement he’d create is always at the back of my mind and he chose food to express himself and his personality I guess that’s what I am doing too. This is one way which keeps me connected to him and his ways.

What all I’ll be writing about –

  • My tested recipes

  • How food influences me

  • My days in the kitchen

You can’t just eat good food. You’ve got to talk about it too. And you’ve got to talk about it to somebody who understands that kind of food – Kurt vonnegut

I wake up at 8:00 am

For usual university days when I chose not to rent a room nearby and travel everyday for 2 hours straight up the hills. I had no option other than to wake up at 7 or even 6 am sometimes. When it would be a weekend I’d sleep late at night and I would wake up at 11 am. I took great pride in leading a life like that. After all I was waking up everyday early in the morning and travelling alone to university.

Now my university days are over. I’m a post graduate now. Waking up so late in the morning just didn’t feel right anymore. It felt like I was missing out the essence of morning. I haven’t yet read an article or scientific research on what effects a human being can. miss out on if he or she doesn’t get up early in the morning. I now get up early and bow down to the great source of energy for the entire planet I.e Sun.

I prepare breakfast for the family and then I post the picture on Instagram. I then do some regular chores like cleaning. After that I pen down what I feel.

On the instagram post I said I will make a to-do list but I haven’t yet. I will start that too.

Started youtube!

For a long time I wanted to do something extreme which can really give me freedom from the box that I’ve always put myself into. I want to share the message of courage and originality.

I know I’m here after a long time it’s because I was post graduating in chemistry and before that I was graduating. While I have always managed to do exceptionally well in studies. I observed it was not something I wanted to do for the bigger picture. I did not want to live a life without passion. I think with a proper mind set anyone can do anything. Very late I understood the meaning of ‘believe yourself’..I actually understood how big of an impact it can make in your life if you just have that belief. Believe that you’re going to be alright. Everything comes after the belief. I started believing that the power is within me. Everything you’re searching for is within. I know I am also saying stuff now..but somebody out there might not understand it now or will relate with me. But if you are also like the old me who doesn’t really know what to believe in and what good it will do to you. Chill out okay? You’ll understand. Things will happen and you will know. And listen keep doing something don’t sit. One thing will lead to another and that thing will lead to another. For this you need to start with that one thing first. Just start okay?

While my love for food has only grown with time I hope to spread the message of passion with my love for food. The vibe will get to you 🙂

I hope to provide value to society and spread positivity. I feel good so I thought I’ll share it here. If you need any help or you want to talk just look around you. Is the sun out today? Are the plants looking green? Go out for a walk today? If you still don’t feel alright. I’m here for you. Talk to me.

Chilli Idli

Healthy does not always need to be boring. Honestly, I never really care about the calories intake but I am very well aware of the health-conscious people out there. I hear ya. If unknowingly calories are being taken care of and it tastes nothing less than street food.. would you mind? I know I won’t. It’s more like a win-win situation.

  • 2 cups idli cubes
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 cup sliced onion
  • 1/2 cup sliced capsicum
  • 1 cup chopped cabbage
  • 2 tbsp chopped ginger
  • 1 tbsp garlic
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 2 tbsp green chilli sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • salt to taste

  1. Heat oil in a broad non stick pan, add onions and sauté for a minute.

  2.  Add ginger, garlic and green chillies and sauté for 20 seconds.

  3. Add the sliced capsicum and the sliced cabbage sauté for another 40 seconds ( Don’t over cook the veggies you want to keep them crunchy)

  4. Add tomato ketchup, sugar, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, chilli sauce, salt and mix well. Cook on a medium flame for 1 minute.

  5.  Add the idli cubes, mix gently and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes while tossing occasionally.
